Associate Professor Datin Dr Sharmilla Kanagasundram is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist at the University Malaya Medical Center [UMMC]. 
She treats patients who have psychological problems associated with co morbid medical conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease, Diabetes Mellitus, chronic skin conditions, thyrotoxicosis and cancer etc. Sleep problems, adjustment disorders, depressive disorders, chronic pain and many other behavioral problems due to poor coping styles are prevalent among those patients who are medically ill. In addition, she treats patients who experience dysfunction due to chronic marital stress, sexual abuse and victims of motor vehicle accidents.

She has 16 years of experience in treating patients with psychological problems and those with major mental illness such as anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia as well as bipolar disorders.
